Tastes of Autumn

The colder months of the year bring a variety of delicious seasonal produce and exciting new tastes for you to enjoy.

Here’s a taste of what you can look forward to in the markets:

Baby Brussels Sprouts: crispy, nutritious and slightly sweet and makes an ideal side dish for evening meals.

Hass Avocado: a smooth, creamy flesh that’s fantastic for spreading on sandwiches, using in pastas and sauces and is packed full of Vitamin E.

Cup Mushrooms: versatile and delicate, these add flavour and nutrients to virtually any dish.

Zucchini: a glossy, green-skinned vegetable with a firm, flavoursome flesh.

Kiwifruit: a sweet, ready-to-scoop out juicy green flesh that makes a fantastic dessert or snack.

Pink Lady Apples: ripe and juicy, these super-sweet apples are ready for munching on.

Celeriac: tasty and versatile, this has a mild earthy flavour and is great raw in salads or boiled and mashed as a side dish.

Sugar Snap Peas: an excellent source of dietary fibre, sugar snap peas and plumper than snow peas and have sweet pods.

Tamarillo: this obscure fruit is a relative of the tomato, potato, eggplant and capsicum families and has a mildly sweet flesh and sour skin.

Nashi: an Asian pear that looks like a yellow apple with a crisp sweet flesh used in baked deserts or fruit salads

Turnips: use the Vitamin C-rich bulbs by peeling them, and then boiling or baking for a hearty side dish.

Silverbeet: often mistaken for spinach, this leafy vegetable is nutritious and has large, earthy-flavoured leaves that can be used in pies, soups, curries, salads or risottos.
